#LoveYourCurls with Dove Hair

Hey ladies! I’m very excited to share with you this amazing new hair product system by Dove Hair that is completely tailored to women and girls with curly, coarse hair, like me! Whether your hair is soft and wavy, thick and coily, or full and curly, the NEW Dove Hair Quench Absolute system is just for you.
I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical about this system before I used it, it can be difficult to find a website with products that caters for tight curls like I have. I was thinking, is this really for coarse hair? I didn’t want to try another brand that promoted hair products tailored to curly, coarse hair, but didn’t contain the must-have ingredients to keep my hair shiny, soft and most importantly, healthy. But I quickly found that these products work- it is a three-part system that nourishes and fortifies the hair for growth and length retention. The formulas, infused with protein, nutrients and Buriti Oil, provide a nourished, smooth finish, giving me shine and manageability that lasts all day, I’ve even recommended this product line to some of my friends that have long straight hair that tend to use some of the best hair rollers 2020 has seen produced, to style their hair and make sure it’s kept curly all day long!

The scent of the products quickly drew me in upon opening the package. To me, it doesn’t smell like the typical “hair care” product. The scent is very intriguing, as it has a sweet, feminine fragrance. Upon using the Ultra Nourishing Shampoo, I immediately enjoyed how effortlessly the product washes into my hair. While it does somewhat depend on how one washes their hair, I noticed that the does a great job of removing product buildup, and restoring moisture. It gently cleanses curly hair, leaving it feeling soft and smooth. It leaves my strands strengthen from the core.

I applied the Ultra Nourishing Conditioner right after shampooing. It absorbs effortlessly into the hair and it increases the manageability of my curls for a smooth finish. I massaged it in, focusing on the ends and let it sit for about 5 minutes before rinsing out. When used at least once a week, this conditioner works very well, helping my curly maintain strength and shine. I love this conditioner, as my naturally coarse hair is revived and strengthened from the core.

My favorite product in the Dove Hair Quench Absolute system is the Intense Restoration Mask. It comes in a short, round jar, and has a rich, creamy formula. I used this product as the main ingredient in my monthly, deep-conditioning treatment. I apply this treatment to my hair once a month, as it restores the strength and softness of my strands and leaves it smooth and manageable. You can leave this on your hair for 3 to 5 minutes if you’re on the go; or, for an intense condition as I do, leave it on for about an hour or two and let the heat from your head open up the cuticles to deeply moisturize and strengthen. It envelopes each curl to deliver intense nourishment for ultimate smoothness and hydration.
Finally, enhance your curly strands with the Supreme Creme Serum. It’s Dove’s first curl, leave-in nourishing treatment. A few pumps of this product will give you just the right nourishment you need for long lasting frizz control and curl definition. For my hair texture, this product worked great for frizz control. Its fast absorbing, lightweight and creamy serum has high levels of glycerine to penetrate and nourish hair. Use it on wet or dry hair. It’s great for those with very curly hair who do the “wash-n’-go” method, only needing a product to define the curls, helping them remain bouncy and full of volume all day long.

Did you know that one in three women in the US have curly hair? And women and girls with curly hair feel less confident? Only 4 in 10 little girls with curly hair think their hair is beautiful, and only 10% of women in the U.S. with curly hair feel proud of their hair. Dove Hair wants all women to love their curls, so they launched the “Love Your Curls” campaign to encourage women to celebrate their curls and inspire future generations to do the same. Girls are more likely to feel beautiful and proud of their hair if people around them do. So check out the NEW“Love Your Curls” poetic book- an amazing tribute to curly hair. The book is filled with beautiful images and real stories from real women, intended to represent and inspire curly girls of all ages. Written by best-selling author, Taiye Selasi and illustrated by Annick Poirier, this book is a must have for moms to teach their girls to love the uniqueness of not only their hair, but themselves. Upon reading it I was taken aback by the creative ways these women expressed their passion and celebration for one of the very things that make us who we are. Books like these are so beneficial. They are a useful resource for people who might not be all that confident with their hair. For younger girls struggling with their curls, reading these sorts of stories can make them feel normal and make them realize that other people also experience these feelings. Perhaps more of these books should be released. If any authors have created books like these to encourage young people to be more confident in themselves, they should really try and find a way to release their work. Whilst it can be difficult to get recognized by a publishing company, authors could always consider looking into some self publishing companies to see if they can release their book using that method instead. Many authors often find it easier to publish the book themselves, it can save time and can distribute the book to the world much quicker. This should, hopefully, allow more people to see your work. With more books like Taiye’s, young girls will learn to love their hair and will grow in confidence. Everyone should #LoveYourCurls. It’s one of the great things that makes you, you.

Download [and share] the book to inspire the curly girls in your life. Visit Dove.com/LoveYourCurls (http://clvr.li/cgdovelyc) where you can not only download the e-book, but even create your own personalized e-book with a custom dedication and illustration for a curly girl in your life. Trying fun hairstyles, and showing her how just a little bit of patience with her hair creates beautiful results, teaches young girls to love their curls. This book brings home the fact that it’s important to make sure our children think positively about themselves, knowing that it only takes one woman to love who she is and pass it on from generation to generation. That’s how we change the world!

Be sure to share your personalized e-book on Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest! Spread the word!

DIY Bath Salts – Gift Idea

Picture

SUPPLIES:

  • Bath salts
  • Glass vials
  • Burlap bags
  • Twine
  • Funnel
  • Spoon
Use your funnel and then spoon your bath salt into your glass vial. If you’re having trouble balancing the vial and the funnel, try placing the vial inside of a tall glass while you pour. Drop a vial or two inside your burlap bag along with some of the beautiful quotes that we found.
We really liked the idea of using glass vials, which are often used for scientific purposes like holding liquid medicine. We thought we’d fill our vials with a different kind of remedy, the kind needed after a hectic and stressful work day — bath salts for a long, well-deserved, luxurious and warming bath. You could also look at combining it with blue god strain as it has been known to have a ‘calming body buzz’ which can compliment your relaxing bath. The unique packaging for this gift is what makes it so special, so be sure to give one to every woman in your life — friends, coworkers, family and neighbors. Everyone needs a little pampering along with an enduring message of love. Plus, if you have just renovated your bathroom, with a new bath and shower (perhaps with glass from GlassShowerDirect.com) then it makes sense to spend the time soaking in the tub with these salts whilst admiring the new surroundings you worked so hard to get sorted. Plus, these bath salt vials will really make great party favors for birthdays, bridal showers and weddings, meaning they are a show stopper style gift for any occasion!

Pumpkin Spice Sugar Scrub

SUPPLIES:

Jar & Decorative Twine

SCRUB INGREDIENTS:

2 cups brown sugar
1/4 cup Sugar in the Raw
1/2 cup white sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp pumpkin spice
1/2 tsp nutmeg
2/3 cup of oil*

sugarscrub
*When you choose your natural oil, try something like sunflower oil or coconut oil, which has a subtle scent so as not to take away from the delicious fragrance of your pumpkin spices in the recipe.

To learn more about carrier oils and essential oils, check out our Body Scrub post, which explains the purpose and benefits of both.

Now, here’s the easy part. Mix all of the ingredients together, stirring in the oil last. You can use 2/3 cup of oil, or you can decide to use more or less. It’s your personal preference how rich you’d like your scrub to be. I like mine rich and smooth with oil, like the scrubs at Bath & Body Works, a nice thick combination that leaves your hands super soft and smooth.

sugarscrub4_labelsSo now that you have this amazing fall body scrub, you’ll want to hand out a few as gifts (and just in time for Alicia’s housewarming!). Start by finding a nice jar container that has a solid seal. You can use a mason jar or a storage jar with a latch like the ones we found at Michaels. I’ve also seen these jars at Marshalls, Ikea and the Container Store. We designed these adorable Pumpkin Spice Sugar Scrub Printables for you in three different colors. Print out a few different sets, decorate with some festive straw raffia, and hand these out as gifts!

Furthermore, with the holiday season just around the corner, why not consider setting up an Etsy shop where you can sell beautifully gift wrapped versions of this scrub online? Creating an Etsy gift shop is a great way to start a business and make some extra money over the festive period. For more quirky online business ideas, take a look at this article. If you do decide to set up an online shop, make sure to promote it as much as possible to get people’s attention. Some business owners might even want to create social media accounts to try and raise awareness on different social media platforms, such as Instagram. For small businesses, it can be difficult to be taken seriously without a good number of followers. Perhaps those starting out should consider learning about How to Get 1K Followers on Instagram in 5 Minutes. That would make the business look more reliable, encouraging people to buy from the shop.

Homemade Lip Balm

how-to-make-homemade-lip-balm7
I’m so ready for the chilly weather this season, but I’m finding that Fall and I have a love-hate relationship. On one hand, I love the brisk air that brings on the holidays, but I hate the dryness- dry skin, dry hair, and not to mention, dry lips. The cold weather tends to dry out my lips, so now I see why people opt to use topical cbd products, especially if they have dry skin throughout the winter! I’m always trying to find soothing relief; so I have an inexpensive DIY solution. The concept of personalized lip balms was just one of the reasons that spurred me on to create my very own lip balm. The fact that you can get something like lip balm that you use everyday personalized makes it even special. Plus it shows how important self-care is.

So, I thought, why not make my very own and I can even personalize it too if I wanted to. Today we’re going to make homemade lip balm. This how-to is quick and only takes a few ingredients. One of the primary ingredients in my lip balm recipe is coconut oil. Coconut oil is a good base for a lot of DIY products. I’ve also heard that the use of CBD products and coconut oil are a good pairing, considering they are both natural ingredients. A friend of mine recommended I used something like this Cbdistillery coupon code online if I was to try and incorporate CBD oil, for example, into my DIY lip balms. This could be something worth considering. Anyway, Coconut oil can be used for a variety of different DIY beauty hacks, but did you know that some people even use it to whiten their teeth? Coconut oil pulling, which involves swishing a spoonful of coconut oil around your mouth to remove plaque and toxins from your teeth and gums, is a natural remedy that can help to promote your oral health. Just remember that, when it comes to looking after your teeth, there is still no substitute for regular checkups with a Dentist in Alhambra or a dentist closer to home. You can definitely modify this recipe to your liking, but here are the basic instructions:

how-to-make-homemade-lip-balm9
First, gather your ingredients. This lip balm is virtually all-natural, but you can modify these ingredients to what you have on hand, or what works for you. I used cosmetic-grade beeswax, shea butter, and coconut oil. Feel free to add a capsule of vitamin E. These are all great ingredients to soothe dry, rough lips. I also wanted my lip balm to have a colored tint, so I incorporated one of my eyeshadows to get that deep burgundy color. You can also add an essential oil like Peppermint or an extract like strawberry, or cherry to give it a fun scent and flavor. My lip balm smelt of cinnamon Altoids from the mints in the can. In addition, you will need a small microwave-safe mixing bowl, a container for your lip balm (love my Altoids tin can!) and an eyedropper.
Start by putting 1 part beeswax, 2 parts coconut oil, and 2 parts shea butter in a mixing bowl. For example, if you add 1 teaspoon of beeswax, you’ll need 2 teaspoons of coconut oil and 2 teaspoons of shea butter. These are the exact measurements I used. The amount of ingredients depends on the size of your container. This amount filled my Altoids tin can about 3/4 of the way up.

Next, you want to melt all the ingredients together. The quickest way is to microwave it, but many people melt it over the stove as an alternative. If you’re just going to make enough for one person, I would suggest microwaving your mixture. To fill up multiple cans, melting it over the stove may be the best. To melt over the stove, put these ingredients into a container that can withstand simmering water (ie. glass). Create a double boiler by filling a pot about an inch of the way up with water and letting that come to a slight boil. Put your ingredients in a glass container and sit it in the boiling water for as long as it takes until all the ingredients melt together.

For this tutorial, place the mixture in the microwave on medium-high for one and a half minutes, stopping every 30 seconds to check the mixture. I found that the coconut oil melted the fastest, the shea butter following that, and the bits of beeswax taking the longest to melt.

how-to-make-homemade-lip-balm10

After 1 and a half minutes, it should have a nice oil-like consistency. If you want to add color to your lip balm, you will need to add it quickly before the mixture hardens. I found this amount of lip balm takes about 5 minutes to begin to harden. For color, you can add an eyeshadow; I’ve seen Kool-aid added, or even lipstick. If you choose to add lipstick, you will need to add it before putting the mixture in the microwave, so it can all melt together.

how-to-make-homemade-lip-balm12

To minimize spillage, transfer the lip balm to your container with an eyedropper. This also helps to have that smooth look once the lip balm dries. I used an Altoids tin can as my container. It’s super cute, and just the right size to fit in my pocket or purse. Next, let it harden completely. If you need it to harden fast, stick it in the fridge for about 5 minutes and then it will be ready to use. That’s how you make homemade lip balm! No more dry lips this season, and this makes a great Christmas gift! Happy DIY!
