It’s April!! I’m so excited- mainly because the cold, harsh winter is over, but I feel so much more inspired around this time.  I love April.  The flowers are budding, I have a few family birthdays this month to celebrate, and Easter gives me life!  This is also the month that I do my Spring cleaning and get organized.  To kick things off, I  created this desktop wallpaper to keep me inspired and the dates of April right in front of me when I’m working.  It’s so helpful to have on hand and I also feel a sense of happy when I look at these blooms.  So I’d like to share some of this happy with you. Download this free calendar, desktop wallpaper below!

DIY Burlap Favor Bags

Every party needs favors to give!  Instead of paper gift bags, try this DIY that might take a few minutes, but will be a long-lasting gift for your guests.  With paint, add a few stenciled, floral accents to plain burlap favor bags.  Instead of setting them to the side when the event is over, your guests can continue to use them to hold jewelry, toiletries, any other small items or knick knacks.

Supplies:

  • Burlap favor bags
  • Acrylic green and white paint
  • Sponge brush
  • Martha Stewart adhesive floral stencil

Step 1:

First, cut a small piece of cardstock, scrap paper or cardboard that is the same width as the bag.  Put it inside of the bag to prevent paint from transferring to the inside.

Step 3:

Choose the paint colors you prefer.  I had a few different green colors, but decided to go with the darker green and the white paint color combination.

Step 4:

Lay your stencil on the bag.  I like these adhesive stencils because they don’t shift around as you paint.  Even though it’s reused on the burlap, the adhesive isn’t removed when they are washed. Using up and down patting motions, cover the stencil with the white paint, being sure to cover all cutout areas of the stencil.

Step 5:

You can either stop here, if you like the singular color, or continue with the second paint selection to add more color.  Once you’ve stamped one bag, continue stamping the remainder of the bags with the same color.  Continue with the second color, stenciling each bag and placing them in different positions to add variety.

These bags should only take a few minutes to dry.  Use these as treat bags of gift bags at your next Spring party!

Ribbon-wrapped Gift Boxes

Before you wrap that Valentine’s Day gift for your loved one, consider this colorful ribbon-wrapping with floral accents.  Small, elegant touches with ribbon can give life and color to any ordinary gift box.  Try using thin ribbon as I did here to create a minor, yet eye-catching present for that special person.  This is a very simple craft, that makes a beautiful statement.

Supplies:

  • Gift boxes
  • Thin ribbon
  • Tape
  • Silk flowers
  • Hot glue and gun

Step 1:

Tape one end of the ribbon to the underside of the box, and bring it up and over to the other side of the box, making sure the ribbon is tight.  Secure the other end at the bottom with tape.

Step 2:

Repeat step 1, adding as many color and as many strips of ribbon as you like, making sure the ribbon is not loose and secured with tape at the bottom.

Step 3:

Remove the bloom from the stem on your silk flower.  Glue the flower to the top of the box.

These pretty flower boxes are great for bridal showers or weddings- the recipient will love how unique and personalized they are.  Be sure to tag us in your Instagram photos to let us know that you tried this lovely DIY!
