Wooden Bead Gift Wrap

It’s the start of the holiday season and with all the stores showing off their holiday displays, one has no choice to get prepared for the parties, the food and fun.  To start off the season, I want to show you a simple 5-minute gift wrapping DIY that you can do for Christmas or even Thanksgiving.  With just a few wooden beads and a Sharpie pen, you can create unique tags to top your presents.

For this DIY, you’ll need:
  • A black gel pen (I used a Sharpie pen)
  • Wooden beads
  • Yarn or twine
  • Gift wrapping paper
  • Scissors
  • Other gift wrap embellishments

Before stringing the beads on the yarn, write out each letter of your message or name with the pen.  Don’t use a marker, because it will bleed.  It’ll seep through the cracks of the bead and become a big mess.  But I like how thin the letters look when using a pen.  It gives it a modern look.  You can also paint the beads a different color before writing on them.  A metallic gold would look great, or you can even use chalkboard paint and write the letters with chalk.  There’s no limit to the creativity with this.  Write “thanks,” “give thanks,” or thank you” to tailor it to Thanksgiving Day.

I’ve added mini pine cones along with wooden chips for name tags.  Add any other embellishments you’d like to give it some more flair.

And that’s it.  I’ve wrapped these gifts with newspaper to make it look rustic, yet modern.  I think this is one of the quickest ways to spruce up your gift wrap, especially if it’s down to the wire and you’re having trouble deciding what to do.  Check out our other gift wrapping ideas, and stay tuned for more holiday crafts from us!

Valentine’s Day Photo Backdrop

If you saw our mini hat post, you got a sneak peak at this DIY. My friend was recently telling me about a photo booth hire Coventry company who were at a party she went to. Her pictures looked great and it inspired me to make my own background. Every party needs a cute photo booth- that designated spot in the room where your guests can take pictures, but also a backdrop that you created yourself. For this DIY, we took brown paper gift wrap and used it as the main element for the backdrop. Yes, the brown paper from the packages tied up with strings :). The rest is up to your creative mind. We wanted this to be Valentine’s Day-themed, so we doodled love sayings and quotes in the spirit of the holiday, the kind that would make anyone from a BBW Dating website light up if they saw it. We thought not only would it be fun, but it would be the perfect way to wrap up your special day with your other half. One of our friends wanted a way to surprise his girlfriend with a new gold heart necklace, and we suggested our DIY backdrop. He will be so happy when he tries it out on Valentine’s Day!

Find a bare wall to use for your back drop. Our wall faced a large window, to let in a lot of natural light. Natural light is key for getting those amazing photos. Tape sheets of gift wrap on the wall, making sure it’s high enough even for the tallest guest. You don’t want to see the edges of the backdrop when you take pictures.

Using a washable marker, begin drawing your speech bubbles, love notes, and sayings, making it as creative as you like. We chose a washable marker as to not have permanent ink bleed through the paper and damage the wall.

The great thing about this DIY is that your guests can write out their Valentine’s day thoughts throughout the day. Each person can add a saying or doodle to the backdrop; and once it’s filled, you will have created a photo booth that has an extra special touch.

Or you can keep it simple, like we did in the photo below, and draw think and speech bubbles that express the “love.” However you do it, this DIY photo booth is a cute addition to any party and will be the talk of the night! Happy DIY!
If you’re an avid photographer and love to share your images on social media, perhaps boosting your engagement is something that’s been on your mind. An account manager could be what you’re after: upleap gets you more followers, likes, engagement and can even drive sales if you run a business social media account.

Upcycle Shopping Bags for Gift Wrap

shopping-bags-gift-wrap-spark-and-chemistry-blog
Time to start wrapping those gifts for the holidays!  Here we’re going to show you how to upcycle all of those super cute brown paper bags (and other bags too) to use them as gift wrap.  This is a great way to recycle; and depending on where you shop, you can get a great variety of different shapes, colors, and styles for bags to use in this DIY.  Try to keep them in tact and as neat as possible until you’re ready to do this DIY project

Gather your ribbon, twine, buttons and tags to finish off the package. We kept our decorating minimal to keep the style from becoming to gaudy. The brown paper packaging calls for a natural simplicity, so we like to emphasize the rawness of the material by using rope twine and baker’s twine. In the image below, we used a thin paper bag from Grey Moggie Press and made our gift tag using a torn page from a novel.

For packages with bold designs, be sure to boast those features that make it unique. For instance, the bag above has creative lettering and mixed type. You don’t have to turn this bag inside out. Instead, show off the recognizable design. Trust me, your friends and family are sure to love it.
When folding your bags, you’ll find that some may be more malleable than others. For those bags that are a bit more challenging to fold, you may want to use hot glue or crazy glue to hold your folds in place.  Also, try to find unique ways to fold the packaging.  You may find that a less conventional way of packaging looks better and is easier to wrap.

And you don’t necessarily have to wrap a specific gift with the corresponding store bag. For instance, we wrapped a book of poetry in a store makeup bag. This will ensure that your gift is a real surprise! Or you can simply wrap the gift inside the bag it came in, like we did with the bag from one of our favorite clothing stores.

We love the crazy design and text on this restaurant bag below.  It’s great for masculine-inspired gift wrap!

Use rubber stamping to enhance your design.  Also, try wrapping using different shapes instead of the traditional square and rectangular packaging.

We love this DIY because it’s super creative and you’re also reusing bags that otherwise may have been thrown in the trash!  Have fun with it and share this post with your friends!  Happy DIY from Spark and Chemistry!
